On September 19, 2023, the "Inauguration Ceremony and Academic Forum of the Institute for Learning Sciences" was held. This ceremony celebrated the establishment of the country's first and only Institute for Learning Sciences. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Joo-Ho Lee, along with Seoul National University President Hong-Lim Yoo, and about 100 other attendees, commemorated the opening.

Following the inauguration, there were lectures from four experts in learning sciences from both domestic and international communities. Evolutionary psychologist Dae-Ik Chang, Dean of the Startup College at Gachon University, delivered an insightful lecture on the evolution of learning and the future of learning sciences. Justin Reich, a professor at MIT, introduced strategies for innovating school education in the era of digital transformation. Min-Kang Kim, a professor at the University of Sydney, spoke on educational innovation for all from the perspective of neuroscience, and Min-Soo Ha, a professor at Seoul National University, presented his latest research on AI-based automated assessment.

The lectures were followed by an academic forum on the theme of "Future Education and Learning Sciences." Researchers in the field of learning sciences, representatives from the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Google for Education, and educational experts from affiliated high schools of Seoul National University engaged in spirited discussions on the challenges in our country's education, the direction of future education, and the necessity of research in learning sciences.
