Learning Sciences Research Institute


The Learning Sciences Research Institute at Seoul National University is dedicated to researching foundational knowledge and technologies to transition from standardized, uniform school education to learner-centered, personalized education. In support of this mission, the institute facilitates interdisciplinary research across various disciplines, including education, linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, and computer science. Under the auspices of the Learning Sciences Research Institute, there are specialized centers such as the Brain-Based Learning Research Center, Learning Data Research Center, AI-Based Education Research Center, and the Center for Innovation of Future Education.

Sciences of Learning and Learners

Through scientific research utilizing tools like EEG and fMRI, we uncover new knowledge about learning by studying the invisible phenomena of learning.

In educational settings, we collect multimodal data non-invasively to assess learners' competencies and precisely study the interactions between instructors and learners.

Innovation of Learning and Teaching

Utilizing artificial intelligence and big data technologies, we efficiently analyze teaching and learning activities, offering real-time personalized learning support. 

We develop automated assessment systems that ensure accuracy and fairness, and create artificial intelligence systems to support socio-emotional learning.   

We devise educational curricula to enhance teacher competencies essential for the digital transformation era.
